Costa Rica entry requirements

Canadians and North Americans are not required to have a visa and may visit Costa Rica for a maximum of 90 days without one. To enter the country you must have a valid passport of a photo ID (like the driver license) and a copy of your birth certificate. We strongly recommend having a passport. All Europeans need a valid passport.

For stays up to 90 days, Americans and Canadians need proof of citizenship. Europeans and residents of South America countries must have a current passport. No visas or inoculations are required. Not only is a passport better for airport security reasons, but it also carries more authority with bureocratic Costa Rican officals. Avoid the hassle and get one in advance.

If you know you `ll need an extended visa before you come, or need more specific information, contact the appropiate Costa Rica embassy:
