Cahuita & Puerto Viejo

The southern beach town of Cahuita is laid back and friendly, a place to rest and rejuvenate during the day - and the hot spot for dancing at night. It contains two inviting beaches, one white and one black. Cahuita National Park offers it all - camping, bikking, hikking, snorkeling, and more - and is guarded from the treetops by vociferous howler monkeys. Travel farther south to Puerto Viejo to find yet another ivinting small beach town with an even more relaxed beat.
Cahuita town is an increasing desirable destination to all kinds of tourists. It ´s best known for the beautiful sand beaches in Cahuita National Park - set aside in 1978 to protect the shoreline. The town offers laid-back luxury hotels and backpackers hostels, near the beaches or deep in the inland rainforest - all at generally at lower prices than Pacific coast destinations. Surfers, bohemians and adventurers share the streets here with eco-tourists.
The park´s ecological significance can not be overstated as it protects one of the most important coral reefs in the country and the most developed reef of the Caribean coast. Its more than 1,000 hectares stretch east of the road from the town south to the mouth of the Rio Carbon. The 22,400 hectares offshore park limits include 600 hectares of coral reef and a myriad of marine life. If you snorkel or dive the reef, you´ll find mor than 300 species of mollusks, lobsters, yhree species of turtles and thounsands of colorful fish such as French angelfish, Isabelita, and queen angelfish.
Cahuita town. a tiny Caribbean beach village and the first torusit destination heading south of Limón . About 45km south of Limon, along a coastal road that passes forests and banana plantations, Cahuita´s beach-bum small town is set off the road to the left. The sandy streets have many more bicycles and pedestrians in shorts that cars. It´s a town of loping dogs and blod surfers, black-skinned fishermen kicking a soccerr ball and visitors bent under big backpacks, small shops and restaurants.
