White Water Raftings - Pacuare River, Costa Rica

Nothing means adventure more than Whitewater Rafting on one of Costa Rica´s famous rainforest-feed rivers. Challenging curls and whirls of whitewater - rolling, roiling rapids - are enjoyed in six - to- eight - person self-bailing rafts. These raft trips - are good for everyone, from late pre-teens to dexterous senior citizens.

Turrialba houses Costa Rica´s largest rating operation. There are several commeciallu run rivers available to rafters year round in Turrialba. Many companies offer tours that include transportation, food, guides, and specialized equipment.

  • Pejivalle River

This is a class II and III river, which means that the whole family can enjoy it, while still being fun and exiting for all. This river has turquoise-colored water that pass through rain forest, and sugarcane, coffee and macadamia plantations as participants enjoy its rapids and tranquil pools.

  • Pascua Section

This section of the river offers two dozen class-IV rapids over 25 kilometers. This run is only for experienced rafters who want to challenge their spirit and who enjory adrenaline.

  • Pacuare River

This truly unique river offers visitors an adventurous experience amid a spectacular natural setting. In fac, it is considered among the top 10 rafting rivers in the world.

The Pacuare River offers three different sections of whitewater that flows through forest reserves, national parks, and indigenous reserves. Several companies offer rafting excursions that range from the traditional day trip to some incredible two-to four-night stays. Lodgng along the river runs the gamut from the tents to luxury rooms with views of the river and surrrounding rainforest.

The desen jungle along the Pacuare´s banks provide refuge for several species of mammals, including Jaguars, anteaters, monkeys and sloths. You can find a huge variety of birds, colofrul buuterflies and other insects. Additionally, two sections of the river have been awarded the Blue Ecological Falg.

In adition to rafting, the Pacuare is a great destination for horseback riding, canopy tours, nature walks and visiting indigenous communities.

World Rafting Championship 2011

The WRC will be held in October 3 - 10, 2011

The event expects to draw 60 teams from around the world. Currect World Champions Brazil (men) and Canada (women) are expected to attend along with al the top rating teams. A World Championship consists of 4 disciplines. The Tiem Trial which ranks each team. A head to head sprint which is an exciting battle of rafts bumping each other and trying to outrace the other team with strength and with down the class 4 whitewater course.

The 3rd Race, Slalom, teste each team´s technical ability to negotiate poles hung across the river while avoiding holes and obstacles place in their way with the intent to cause problems. The final event is a donwriver with groups starting in a similar fashion to NASCAR racing  and a 45 minutes battle for pole position and the bragging rights to say they are the World Rafting Champions.

A precedent being set by the organizer is the commitment to make it a sustinable event. The responsability of the 2011 WRC is to work in conjuction with Costa Rica Tourism ideals regarding sustainable tourism.
